For a treatment option that is discreet, comfortable, and effective for a wide range of orthodontic issues, consider clear braces. These braces combine the benefits of clear aligners with those of traditional metal braces. Clear braces swap stainless steel brackets for tooth-colored ceramic, giving them a more natural appearance than metal braces.

If clear aligners aren’t right for you or you prefer braces, clear braces are an excellent solution. You won’t have to worry about forgetting to put aligners back in after eating or losing them while on vacation, because they’re attached to your teeth. We use clear braces that have smooth, low-profile brackets that are stain-resistant—and they still provide the same strength and reliability as metal braces!

When you come to our office for a consultation, Dr. Stachel will assess your teeth and jaw using a 3-D scan, X-rays and photos to evaluate your orthodontic needs. With this information, she can determine whether clear braces are the right choice for you.

Frequently Asked Questions About Clear Braces

Do clear braces take longer?

This is a common question because in the past, clear braces did take longer. Because ceramic brackets were more likely to break when clear braces were first introduced, treatment times were generally longer than those of standard metal braces. Thanks to advances in materials and technology, modern clear braces don’t take any longer than metal braces.

Do clear braces turn yellow?

This is another misconception that stems from the early days of clear braces, when they were prone to staining and discoloration. Today’s ceramic brackets are stain resistant, so they’ll blend in with your smile for the duration of your orthodontic treatment.

Do clear braces hurt?

Clear braces aren’t any more (or less) painful than metal braces. Clear braces, like any orthodontic treatment, can be irritating and uncomfortable at times, particularly when you first get them and when your wires are adjusted. When this occurs, over-the-counter pain relievers and orthodontic wax can help.

How long do clear braces take to work?

Each patient has unique needs, but most people achieve their results in one to three years if they follow our instructions and don’t miss their appointments with us.

Do clear braces work?

Yes, clear braces are just as effective as metal braces. Although clear braces differ from metal braces in appearance, they use the same bracket-and-wire system to progressively shift teeth into the positions planned by Dr. Stachel.
